Social Determinants of Health
Recovery happens in context of an environment. This is reflected in concept knows as Social determinants of health (SDOH). Social determinants are conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, and play that affect a wide range of health and quality-of life-risks and outcomes (CDC). In the early 2000s, the World Health Organization (WHO) began initiatives to understand social determinants of health and health disparities. Soon after, the importance of SDOH was being taught across the globe.
